If you are trying to decide whether you want a baby photographer to take the pictures in a studio or in your home, there are several different things to take into consideration. As a newborn photographer myself I offer studio style of newborn photography to my clients in the Buckinghamshire area and beyond.  I also offer an alternative type of newborn photo shoots, which might be less popular, but just as beautiful and amazing as the studio newborn session. Lifestyle newborn photography is becoming one of my most favourite sessions that I offer to my dear clients.

Newborn Photography: Studio or Lifestyle

Focus during the studio sessions

One of the foremost things to consider when you are making the decisions about newborn baby photo shoot is the actual age of the baby. For the studio newborn baby photography I prefer to have the babies’ photography in my Aylesbury studio before they are two weeks old; in this case as a baby photographer, I can work with your infant whilst he or she is in a peaceful and deep sleep enabling us to capture the timeless memories. At this age babies are also flexible and enjoy being curled up while asleep. The main focus during the studio session is to highlight the baby’s "introduction" to the new world. Time is a key during the studio newborn session as it is important for us to wait until the baby is settled into that sweet and peaceful sleep before I start to work.  Although you have to be prepared that this process can be lengthy and patience is required.

Focus during lifestyle photo sessions

On the other hand, the main focus during a home photo shoot or lifestyle photo session is directed mainly towards capturing the interactions between the baby and family, therefore it is less centred on getting the perfect pose. The newborn baby photographer will simply taking the pictures of your interactions with the baby to capture some of the most intimate moments. Hence having a baby under two weeks of age become less decisive factor. So if your baby is a bit more 'older' it does not mean you have to miss out on those precious and magical newborn moments!

Studio photography sessions and lifestyle photo shoots are two very different things. If you are struggling to decide when to start your baby photography, the great news is that you can always do both: a studio photo session when your baby is newborn and a lifestyle or home session when your little one is a little older.
